Westbrook Stream Restoration Plan – Faversham
Westbrook stream, flowering through the middle of the attractive town of Faversham, was once at the heart of town life. Water from the stream powered Chart Mills and provided drinking water to the town’s residents. Nowadays, however, many local people pass by the stream without giving it a second thought.
Carol J Donaldson Associates has been commissioned by the Medway and Swale Estuary Partnership to survey the channel and provide advice on options for river restoration.
We are looking at ways that the chalk steam habitat can be improved for wildlife by creating more variety along the river bed and re-instating natural habitat along the banks. There are also interpretation and education opportunities and we hope to work with local group, ‘Friends of Westbrook Stream’ to get volunteers involved in carrying out practical work in the channel in the coming months.
