Project Description
Working for Kentish Stour Countryside Partnership, we created comprehensive river restoration plans for the River Stour in Canterbury.
Extensive liaison with landowners, fly fishing clubs and riverside businesses such as Canterbury’s punting companies followed before we submitted our plans for Environment Agency consent.
Carol Donaldson worked with contractors I G Pilcher Ltd to create low flow channels, pool and riffle sequences, berms and scrapes on surrounding land.
Further work with the Kentish Stour Countryside Partnership volunteers resulted in the installation of woody debris deflectors and habitat stepping stones, providing natural habitat along a river corridor dominated by hard revetments.
The success of this work has led to a successful bid for funding from the Environment Agency to extend the enhancement to other parts of the river.
