Project Description
Following survey work and management advice, the River Stour Internal Drainage Board decided to create berms alongside Waterbrook Dyke in Ashford, Kent. Survey work had revealed that water vole were present in small numbers but we were able to identify sections of bank where work could be carried out without the need for trapping.
A destructive bank technique was employed overseen by a qualified ecologist from Carol J Donaldson Associates.
No water vole were disturbed during this process and berms were soon colonised by a array of wetland plants providing new habitat for many wetland species.
